Puyallup Valley Chapter of WSMTA
The Puyallup Valley Chapter is an active branch of the Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA). Our chapter is made up of a group of enthusiastic music teachers from Puyallup Valley, Auburn, Bonney Lake, Buckley, Edgewood, Enumclaw, Graham, Lake Tapps, Milton, Orting, South Hill, Spanaway, Steilacoom, and Tacoma areas. The WSMTA supports us in our philosophy of putting the student first and offering milestones for students to achieve.
PVC members are dedicated to furthering students in their advancement of musical knowledge and enjoyment. Our teachers specialize in teaching private Piano, Organ, Voice, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, Strings, Harp as well as Music Theory and Music History.
Our Chapter has common goals, in that learning music is a positive, life-long addition to anyone’s life. Music brings joy to everyday life. We believe each student will benefit mentally and emotionally from the study of music, and through their personal discipline and experience, will find that learning to play an instrument ‘well’ takes hard work. By offering various performance events throughout the year, our students are encouraged to focus on their music, rehearsal time and their performances, thus achieving a new level of musical ability. Every year our students are motivated to achieve new milestones, while working to stay on target in their desire to create music. We also offer an achievement award in the form of ‘Senior Scholarships’, to honor each graduating senior who has met the challenge of these performance milestones. Many of our students have gone on to further their music education, by earning a Music Degree, or teaching, and/or exploring, in a personal way, the ‘Joys of Music’. For more explanation of these Events and Awards & Scholarships, go to the corresponding tabs to read in full detail.
Further, we provide professional assistance to one another, as teachers, when requested, in order to best serve the students we work with. We hire a music professional each year to hold a workshop for our benefit, to convey their musical teaching tips and inspire us to be better teachers. We ask of ourselves that we become better teachers each year to learn, to grow as educators, and to inspire students of all ages. We are excited about teaching and want to share our experiences with all of our students and their families.
Many of our members are also affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the American College of Musicians – National Guild Auditions, to provide even more musical opportunities.
